This may include the automation of business processes, the creation of tools that will provide efficiency or the development of key functionality that may be missing from our core system and/or third party products. The Software Engineer is responsible for ensuring that development practices are in compliance with best practices. Typical Responsibilities:Software DevelopmentThe Software Engineer ensures technology is used to its fullest capacity and achieves the best return on investment by developing customized solutions that increase service levels, efficiency, and accuracy. This position is responsible for developing software solutions using multiple software development languages, databases, tools, and coding techniques that are widely accepted in the industry and considered mainstream. Sets the standard in the department’s efforts to provide excellent member service and assures that software solutions are relevant, supportable, documented, and implemented successfully. Collaborates with business stakeholders and management to ensure solutions meet or exceed business needs by proactively communicating with the appropriate parties throughout the software development lifecycle. Infrastructure SupportThe Software Engineer maintains knowledge of the credit union’s technology infrastructure components and the service impact of component failures. Recognizes trends in service disruptions due to infrastructure issues and makes appropriate recommendations to IT Management. Core Systems SupportCore systems comprise the entire mission critical software supported and maintained by the IT Department and provide member service directly through online channels and telephone access or indirectly through tools that simplify, improve, and automate member service tasks. This role understands how all core systems are used by Credit Union departments, and addresses operational support issues as they become known, ensuring software enhancements are performed in a timely and appropriate manner and seamless integration of new functionality. Ensures communication and prioritization of software issues, including escalation of non-resolved issues are reported to appropriate management in a timely manner. Risk ManagementSecurity is a top priority and the Software Engineer supports IT efforts to address security threats before they become a reality. Threats can come from any direction and in any form, whether human error, natural disasters, hardware failures or even simple misunderstandings. The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for active risk mitigation planning to cover possible threats, including information theft, by either preventing or having a reaction plan in place if it occurs thereby restricting the loss. Technology ProjectsSupports the credit union’s mission to deliver value-added products and services to internal and external members by working on other assignments, actively and respectfully participates on project teams, contributes specialized knowledge and resources to achieve a common objective. System Upgrade & Software MaintenancePerform system upgrades through testing and validation of expected results, ensuring data integrity and system readiness to move upgrades into production environment. Maintains a working knowledge of all associated rules, regulations, and policies ensuring system compliance with a variety of regulatory compliance requirements. Research and ResolutionUtilizes knowledge, skills, available resources and abilities appropriate for a Senior Software Engineer to ensure thorough research and prompt follow-up and conclusion to all requests. Through effective, professional communication corresponds with vendors during the research process. Maintain communication with peers and manager throughout the research process to provide status and updates, facilitating a timely resolution. Position Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in related field is required.Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, internal and external members, and the general public.Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Demonstrated ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Demonstrated knowledge of database software, Internet software, project management software, spreadsheet software and word processing software.Demonstrated ability to work independently with moderate supervision.Demonstrated strong ability to organize work, handle multiple tasks and meet established deadlines
