Come join our team and help make a difference in a child's life!POSITION: Career Counselor (part-time) – Culver City, CAQUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in related field strongly preferred. Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential that authorizes counseling services. Knowledge of graduation requirements for a variety of school districts and entrance requirements for post-secondary institutions. Ability to work with students, parents, faculty, post-secondary educational representatives and community groups. Ability to help students gain awareness of interests and abilities and to help them make course choices that will lead to appropriate careers commensurate with interests and abilities. Assess students routinely for interests and strengths, assist them in maintaining a transitional folder, and interview them routinely to discuss post-secondary plans. Ability to evaluate student transcripts, compute student GPA, and do grad checks in a timely manner. Ability to use culturally relevant and responsive strategies when making presentations. Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office Suite and Internet. Valid California driver license and good driving record required. Must be insurable with the agency’s insurance company for driving.DUTIES INCLUDE:Student Services:Provide college counseling services through group and individual counseling. Make parents and students aware that these services are available at no cost and they do not need to pay for services provided by for-profit companies.Help students become aware of all phases of post-secondary school options.Conduct in-classroom presentations to discuss questions and concerns students have regarding college.Arrange all aspects of career day for the high schoolWrite letters of recommendation for students regarding admissions, scholarships and special programs as requested.Provide necessary information and materials for students regarding PSAT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests and ACT.Determine eligibility of students applying for test fee waivers and keep records.Administer PSAT and interpret results to students, parents, and staff.Facilitate processing of student forms and applications.Coordinate application procedures for financial aid.Offer student and parent workshops to provide information and assistance in completion of accurate forms.Maintain contact with graduates concerning post-secondary school experiences. Outreach and Information Dissemination:Coordinate and implement dissemination of information to students, parents, and community members pertaining to the college admissions process.Provide specific information regarding entrance requirements, applications, scholarships, costs, tuition, financial aid, and testing requirements.Provide current information regarding financial aid opportunities, procedures and deadlines.Organize system of transcript dissemination to colleges and universities for student applicants as requested by student or parent.Provide follow-up interpretation of financial aid packages.Provide on-going communication to the community through newsletter, special mailings and/or a web site.Staff Development:Provide faculty and staff with current information related to the college admissions process.Provide assistance and in-service to faculty and staff in writing letters of recommendation and secondary school reports.Attend pertinent meetings regarding testing, financial aid, and college entrance requirements.Organize and implement field trips to college campuses in conjunction with Principal or Mentor.
