  • Manufacturing company seeks Machine Shop Manager for a direct hire opportunity. Salary range 90k

    Job Summary
    This individual is the Machine Shop Manager. The person in this position is responsible for directing the machine shop operations of the facility, machining projects, and coordinating activities of all conventional CNC, lathe, tool room and deburring departments in a manner consistent with previously established corporate or division/subsidiary policies and operational objectives.
    Essential Functions
    The Machine Shop Manager’s responsibilities will include the following:
    Supervision and management of all employees reporting to the machine shop operation as appropriate for the complexity of each job.
    Develop the leadership team through empowerment and lean strategies.
    Provide vision to the manufacturing operation and direct change.
    Drive cost avoidance and cost reduction efforts in the Machine Shop operation.
    Fully implement the capacity management tool to manage direct labor and equipment resources.
    Fully implement the strategies of Lean Manufacturing.
    Drive automation within the machine shop and NC Programming departments.
    Drive the responsibility of quality down to the operator, using error-proofing and visible quality control techniques to prevent defects.
    Maintain 100% on-time delivery percentage to our customers.
    Maintain a 100% safe shop.
    Implement a system of metrics to hold the operation accountable.
    Utilized company ERP (JobBoss) system to automate Machine Shop processes.
    Work with all CNC Programming to develop cost reductive strategies for machining operations

    Essential Functions
    Supervising the Machine Shop team, making sure that we fully utilize the talent and capability in each individual as well as training them up and developing them in their weaknesses.
    Maximizing product flow through the use of Lean techniques.

    Preparing reports, metrics, performance reviews, and other documents using Microsoft Office. Sitting, bending, stooping, climbing, reaching up to 6 feet high, and moving quickly through the office and shop floor to address any variety of operational issues.
    Answering the telephone, communicating with, assisting customers, contractors, vendors and other callers.
    Written communications with your peers, subordinates, and superiors.

    Contacts and Relationships
    This position interfaces with executive management, peer management, shop employees, agents, vendors, and contractors to obtain or convey information, coordinate, or perform tasks.

    The person in this position is expected to:
    Exercise initiative in organizing and completing daily tasks.
    Solve problems by using judgment based on knowledge of management policies and departmental practices and procedures.
    Meet established productivity and task management standards for function.
    Establish goals and measurements targeted to help the corporation achieve their strategic plan. To be reviewed with the VP of Flight Hardware regularly.
    Flexibility to work long hours as instructed or workload permits.
    Drive cost avoidance and cost reduction efforts in the operation.

    Qualifications and Guidelines
    Twelve plus years proven leadership experience in the same or related field. Direct operational experience is required for a staff of 10-35. Four year degree is a plus.
    Knowledge of:
    Knowledge of Precision Aerospace Machining, Welding, Sheet Metal Fabrication, NC Programming, Tooling Fabrication, team building, Lean strategies, MRPII systems, job costing, and cost reduction. Must be PC literate (spreadsheet, graphics, database, word processing and other software understanding).
    Respond effectively to customers, vendors, and others on the phone.
    Exercise initiative in organizing and completing task assignments.
    Prioritize work assignments, and flexibility to change priorities as required.
    Communicate effectively orally and in writing with staff, agents, and other internal and external contacts.
    Work cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors and management
    Ability to operate and navigate ERP systems JobBoss and UniPoint.
