    • Here is a RARE ORIGINAL 1835 ETCHING OF SIR WALTER SCOTT IN HIS STUDY AT ABBOTSFORD, SCOTLAND, ENGRAVED BY JOHN BURNET, AFTER THE PAINTING BY WILLIAM ALLEN(1831) Published March 25th, 1835 by Hodgson, Boys & Graves, Printsellers to the King, 6, Pall Mall!!!

I got this from the estate of my late Grandparents in New York, they brought this over from England from one of their trips there in the 1950s. This is an original engraving-NOT a reproduction. The image features Sir Walter Scott seated in his study at Abbotsford in Scotland, reading a proclamation made by Queen Mary of Scots. One of his many dogs, thought to be either Maida or Bran sits by the fire. You can see in the close-up of the strap by the shield at the bottom of the print has the signature & date of the original painter William Allen from the original painting. The print is attached to another paper backing, the print itself measures 15 3/4" wide & 21 7/8" tall. You can see the print has a large moisture stain at the left side & bottom area, but this can be restored by a professional, and well worth it considering Sir Walter Scott is the author of classic books like Ivanhoe & Rob Roy. The thin wood frame appears to very old, but I don't know if it's original. I don't know if the glass is original, I see no imperfections in it, so it may be later. The separate pieces of wood on the back are held in place by small nails, the wood looks very old, but again I don't know if this is original.

Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet (15 August 1771 -- 21 September 1832) was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet, popular throughout much of the world during his time, considered the father of the "historical novel".

Scott was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime, with many contemporary readers in Europe, Australia, and North America. His novels and poetry are still read, and many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. Famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of The Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian and The Bride of Lammermoor.
